Icynene is one company’s trade name for low density Polyurethane Foam (also known as ½ pound density, or open cell spray foam).  There are also other types and densities of spray foams available.  Some brands blend materials from other manufacturers and label it as their own brand.  Others manufacture their own materials which allows them greater quality control and flexibility.  SDI Insulation and Icynene Inc marketed the brand so well over the past 10 years that the name Icynene has sometimes been confused as referring to all spray foam insulation.  This is like the brand name “Kleenex” when it is sometimes used to refer to all facial tissue in general.

SDI Insulation has opted to partner directly with major manufacturers in order to provide our customers with flexibility in choosing a product.  Icynene restricts its dealers from installing any products other than Icynene.  SDI’s ability to spray different brands allows us to offer our customers the best pricing and the best insulation for any application.
