HERS Rating
The California Energy
Commission established regulations to certify
home energy rating services through a Home
Energy Rating System (HERS).
HERS ratings provide reliable information
to differentiate the energy efficiency levels
among California homes.
Ratings also provide a guide to investing
in cost-effective home energy efficiency
measures.
These updated standards take effect January 1st,
2010

An
inspection of insulation installation to ensure

• Blower Door Test
A
diagnostic tool designed to measure the air
tightness of a building, and locate spots of the
building that have air leakage.
Home performance testing requires a
Blower Door Test.
• Duct
Blaster Test
A
diagnostic tool designed to pressurize a houses
duct system and measure air leakage of the
ductwork.
